Nearly two hours into the 62kg men’s weight lifting final, Colombia’s Oscar Albeiro Figueroa Mosquera claimed Olympic gold for the first time in his career.
A silver medalist at the 2012 London Olympics and fan favorite in Rio, the 33-year-old Mosquera was greeted with the loudest cheers among all the competitors on each of his lifts.
His victory was partially aided by the absence of Chinese world record holder Chen Lijun, who left the competition after two failed lifts, before the final clean and jerk portion of the competition.
Woah 62kg Mens has just got interesting….Chen Lijun is out & Oscar Figueroa is in the lead after snatching!!!💪🏋 I may have to stay up!
